Welcome to Allanon's Digital Zone!
Welcome to my little corner dedicated to my passions, my projects and my hobbies. I want this web site to be snappy and easy to navigate!I decided to create a website that can be used by vintage computers, which have few resources available.
I want to try to make my small contribution to the movement called "smallweb", which is trying to bring the Internet back to the decency and usability it had before the advent of big tech.
This site does not use cookies.
The goal is to make the entire site very fast and respectful of the resources that the user has available both on his modern or vintage machine.
To achieve this goal I'm going to use plain HTML and a few CSS to make pleasing to surf my pages.
Website has started on 31 Oct 2024
...and last updated on 01 Nov 2024
Why?
Let's face it: Modern web is a mess and I'm pretty tired of this useless crap added to every web page: confusing menus, ads, images and pop up everywhere.I know that people are trying to monetize and it's legit to gain some bucks for their efforts, and I will be honest: I'm doing the same in another website I own.
The crude truth is that all the ads-thing is getting out of our hands since we cannot control tracking done by thirdy party ad agencies.
Do you think it's normal that you have to switch off 240 thirdy party ads providers when the cookies pop-up window is displayed on your screen?
No: that's not normal, no one will spend 20 minutes of his time to switch off every single cookie. Instead the user will just click 'Accept All' to reach the content he is looking for allowing those pests to track your online activity.
So the user has to deal with thirdy party plugins to get rid of this crap and sometime the page stops working because you block too much and suddenly you are not able anymore to reach the contents you are looking for. Cookies everywhere, ads everywhere, crap everywhere: I decided to start setting up a very simple web site what I love. RANT OVER.
Now here I am: 53yo (in 2024), a programmer trying to get his hands on HTML & CSS for the first time, driven by the desire to make something against the monopoly of Big Tech that are turning the Internet into a putrid toilet: what in jargon is now called "enshittification"
If you want to dig into this web site you will find resources regarding with my projects and my hobbies that are mostly related to: Amiga, Music production, 3D Printing, Anime, Raspberry SBC and probably more :)
